Appearance#
Fenrir is lean and wiry — mountain-hardened rather than forest-slender. He has amber-brown skin, pale gold eyes, and dark hair worn in braids with small rune-carved bone charms woven through them. His features are wind-scarred, the kind that come from years at altitude rather than any single injury.
He carries himself quietly. Not timidly — there is nothing tentative about how he occupies a room — but with the particular stillness of someone who learned early that being noticed is a choice. Most people register him as calm. Some find it unsettling without being able to say why.
He carries a tagelharpa — a bowed lyre carved from mountain pine with bone tuning pegs etched with runes. The case lining is worn through in places and has been repaired more than once with gut-string.
Runes#
His name in Elder Futhark: ᚠᛖᚾᚱᛁᚱ ᛋᚲᛟᚷᚹᛁᚾᛞ
The rune meanings woven through the name tell a quiet story: need, travel, isolation, gift, ancestry, dawn.
Heritage#
The Fjallsfrae Bloodline#
The Fjallsfrae are an old clan of wood elves whose ancestors chose the mountain passes over the lowland forests. They served as guides, couriers, and occasionally spies between the human settlements of the valleys — never soldiers, never lords. They called themselves vinder: wanderers.
The Skogvind Name#
Skogvind ("forest wind") is the maternal branch epithet of the Fjallsfrae bloodline. Fenrir's mother was born a Fjallsfrae; the Skogvind name was earned by her line over generations.
Bjorn Fjallsfrae#
Bjorn is Fenrir's first cousin on their mothers' side. They grew up in the same high-altitude settlement — a cluster of longhouses built against a cliff face, wrapped in old pine, invisible from below. Where Bjorn planted his feet, Fenrir was the one nobody could locate when they looked for him. They work well together. Bjorn makes noise. Fenrir disappears into it.
Personality#
Traits#
- Driven by a need to understand things others accept without question. A closed door is a question. A locked chest is an argument.
- More comfortable in silence than most people are in conversation. When he speaks, he has usually already decided what will happen next.
Ideal#
Balance — The mountain does not move for the storm, and the storm does not stop for the mountain. He is most useful when he understands what a situation needs, not what he prefers it to be. Control is not power — it is accuracy.
Bonds#
- Bjorn is the only person who knew him before he was changed. He is also the only person who can find him when he doesn't want to be found.
- He carries a dead woman's debts. He did not choose this. He also has not put the list down.
Flaws#
- He underestimates how much his stillness unsettles people. He is not being cold — he is listening. Most people cannot tell the difference, and he has stopped explaining.
- He prefers to know what is happening before he acts, which means he sometimes waits too long. Not out of cowardice — out of a certainty that one more piece of information will make the right answer obvious.
Voice & Mannerisms#
- He does not fill silence. If there is nothing useful to say, he says nothing, and he is not bothered by others' discomfort with that.
- He observes before engaging. In a new room, he will position himself where he can see the exits before he speaks to anyone.
- His humor is dry and infrequent. When it surfaces it tends to catch people off guard.
- He does not explain himself unless he has decided the other person has earned it.
- He is not unkind. He simply operates on a different assumption about what other people need from him — which is often less than they expect.
Abilities & Notable Skills#
- Rapier — primary melee weapon
- Thunder Wave — used during the Boar Job; pushed boars and forced Dexterity saves
- Jack of All Trades (Level 2) — adds half proficiency bonus to every skill check, even unproficient ones
As a Wood Elf, Fenrir does not sleep — he meditates in a 4-hour trance. He used this time productively after the Boar Job by doing jumping jacks outside the farmhouse for four hours.
The Instrument#
The tagelharpa is not decorative. The bone charms on the tuning pegs are not his — he has not removed them and does not intend to. He plays it alone more often than in company. When he does play publicly it tends to unsettle people in the same way his silences do: something in the sound sits just beneath what they can name.
If it were destroyed it would matter more than he would admit.
Relationships#
- Bjorn Fjallsfrae — first cousin (mothers' side); the only person who knew him before he was changed; the only person who can find him when he doesn't want to be found
